Hero’s Journey
Today I had the chance to meet and photograph a dog named Hero.
Hero, nicknamed “Crusty” along the way, was found as a stray in North Carolina. He was emaciated and his skin was in terrible condition from Demodex, a treatable but demanding skin disease. Demodex isn’t the kind of condition that heals overnight. It takes time, patience, daily medicated baths, medications, and close attention.
His previous owner was found but couldn’t provide the care Hero desperately needed. The hard choice was made to surrender Hero so he could get the help he deserved.
That’s how he found his way here to Connecticut, into the care of Janet at Second Chance Animal Rescue.
Hero has already come so far. His skin is healing. His body is getting stronger. And his spirit? That was never broken to begin with. Despite everything he’s been through, Hero is still so full of trust.
Hero still needs continued treatment before he’s ready for adoption. The baths, the medications, the vet care, it all adds up. And that’s where you come in.
If you’ve ever believed that every dog deserves a second chance this is one of those moments where you can be part of that story. You can make your donations to Second Chance Animal Rescue of CT.
A donation, no matter the size, helps cover the cost of Hero’s ongoing medical care and brings him one step closer to the life he’s been waiting for — a safe home, a soft place to land, and a family to love him the way he’s always deserved.
Hero may not look like a hero yet.
But he’s getting there. And with a little help, he’ll be ready for his next chapter very soon.
